In Maria se loflied in Lukas 1:39-50,
noem sy God se handelinge met sy volk. Verse 54-55 sê:
“God het sy volk Israel baie jammer gekry.
Hy het nooit sy beloftes vergeet wat Hy aan hulle
gemaak het nie. Hy het sy goedheid oor hulle uitgestort,
presies soos Hy aan Abraham belowe het –
aan hom en aan sy hele nageslag.
Ja, God se beloftes is vir altyd waar.”
Al Lindgren, ‘n teologiese professor,
vertel hoe hy en sy seun gaan visvang het.
Skielik het sy seun gevra:
“Dad, what is the toughest thing God ever tried to do?”
Lindgren sê die vraag het hom totaal onkant betrap!
Maar getrou aan hoe ‘n professor optree,
het hy dit met ‘n teenvraag beantwoord:
“Why? What do you think was the toughest thing
God ever tried to do?”
Die seun het geantwoord:
“Well, in science class at school,
I thought maybe the toughest thing God had to do
was to create the world. Then in Sunday school,
we talked about miracles,
and I thought maybe the Resurrection of Jesus
was the toughest thing.
But then I started thinking, and I decided no one knows God
really well. So now I think the toughest thing God ever tried to do,
is to get us to understand who He is and that He loves us!”
Lindgren was verbaas oor sy seun se antwoord,
en kon eenvoudig net self antwoord:
“You’re right, Son! And it took God’s Son to do it!”
God het al sy beloftes in Jesus laat waar word!
As ons net wil besef Wie God is, en hoé lief Hy vir ons is!
